Star Flower

The Star Flower Orbea variegata is a succulent plant native to South Africa. Until it flowers it looks like a cactus, but it’s not closely related to cacti.

The flower is quite unusual, shaped like a five-point star.

The plant is easy to grow, and like most succulents needs little water in summer, but benefitting from full sun. It is a small plant, usually less than 12 centimetres, (five inches) high., but can be quite wide. It can be grown from cuttings

The flowers come in autumn. In our area, April and May are the most likely months for flowers.
At present, May 1 2018 we have a few pots of this plant, some with flowers for sale at

  $7 each.
